SANCTUMS – Truth Lifting It’s Head Up Against Scandals

Calgary DJs come producers Dan Solo and Evangelos Typist just released their second collective work as SANCTUMS. The atmospheric sounds of these two Calgary boys has it’s sound clearly rooted in hip-hop, as the duo co-hosts a weekly throwback hip-hop night at Broken City here in Calgary. The beats on this release are of a much darker tone than their increasingly popular night where one might hear Coolio, Afrika Bambaataa and  Jay-Z in the span of 15 minutes.

The blend of minimal electronica and hip-hop finds it’s sweet spot in headphones, especially when walking inner-city streets late at night. Upbeat enough to keep a skip in your step, but just spooky enough to keep you peering over your shoulder from time to time. SANCTUMS released the EP earlier in October in the majestic Lougheed house. This historic building in Calgary’s Beltline is a popular spot for weddings and fancy fundraisers during the day, but gave a perfect haunted-house vibe as the night crept in.
