New Release: No Gold – New Recipe
We slept on this release when it came out in July, but I’m digging No Gold‘s new EP New Recipe. Recorded live at Mood Hut (without using any MIDI according to the Bandcamp) New Recipe is a upbeat psych freak out in line with their 2011 self-title album.
The EP starts off ambient and builds in to a lo-fi acid house party before the end of the first track. The tracks follow this lo-fi theme through the rest of the EP, and serve as a sonic departure from No Gold’s S/T release. Swapping the up-beat pop of their self-titled record, for the moody, lo-fi grooves of New Recipe isn’t exactly a bad thing but it does make one wonder what the band’s sophomore album could have sounded like (sadly they went on indefinite hiatus).
