We’ve been eagerly awaiting the next single from Rae Spoon‘s new album Armour ever since we laid our ears on the tremendous “I Hear Them Calling“. And “Stolen Song” does not disappoint.

On the surface a cute, gently plucked guitar ‘n’ bass ditty featuring some delightful minimal electronic percussion, the song is a critique of gender identity and cultural appropriation in the music scene. But the Victoria electronic indie pop songwriter sings from an empathetic position of understanding, as well as a desire to educate and create change, as they discuss at length in an interview with Beatroute that’s well-worth reading.

“Stolen Song” is another great track from what’s sure to be a fantastic record. Armour is out February 19 on Coax Records, and is available for pre-order now. Rae Spoon is on tour across Canada this winter.
