We’ve always loved Braids, but they’ve really cemented themselves as powerful, vulnerable and incredible artists over the past couple of years. Deep in the Iris was a beautiful and important album, and there’s even more where it came from: the band is releasing an EP of four songs from those recording sessions on May 20.
As Raphaelle Standell-Preston shared in brave essay last week, “Companion” is a personal story of healing, surviving, grieving in the aftermath of abuse. Internal emotional tension is represented in the two Standell-Prestons in the video: one strong and assured, the other sore and sad. Two singers, two selves that stand together to heal and grow, and one fantastically sung, emotional song.
The Companion EP is available for pre-order now from Arbutus Records.
