Pale Eyes – Pop Litany II

Toronto’s Pale Eyes recently released Worth the Sorrow, his impressive follow-up to 2013’s sweatshop. This LP is extremely thick – nearly overflowing with dense production ideas and deep, complex lyrics to create a perfectly realized intricate journey through what sounds like a dejected android’s dream of electronic music. Album highlight “Pop Litany II” is a sample-heavy future-pop, industrial prog-ballad with his signature, deft lyrics delivered with his fervid, smooth as steel, vocals.

Worth the Sorrow is available now from Bandcamp.

SMRT – Buzzsaw

In the dead of the Winnipeg winter, goth-rapper and avid Instagrammer SMRT just dropped the most deliciously weird video for his new single “Buzzsaw” from his upcoming debut EP Knife Music. The video unfolds with SMRT rapping to the camera and selfieing his way through a Tumblr polyptych of pastel goth / health goth / catholic goth (?) animated gif-ready-aesthetic tableaus, and never shying from the chance to grab the perfect ‘gram.

Werewolves, Beware! – That’s Fine

The new Toronto/Calgary darkwave duo WEREWOLVES, BEWARE! recently dropped their debut EP 0NE, and their first single “That’s Fine” plays like a noisy, synth-heavy title theme to a b-horror, trash classic.

The catchy synthpop tune from duo Jamie Monteiro and Ava Markus opens with a steady 808 beat set to a pulsing bass and sleazy synth lead – then kicks in with a blurry vocal chant before the electric guitar blasts in and drives the song off into a hazy storm of analog synth swells, garage-heavy production, and gentle teases of vocoder and synth arpeggios – which make the track require repeated listens.

We’re excited to see more from this new duo! Grab a copy of EP 0NE from  their Bandcamp.
