MP3: Mirage – Let’s Kiss
Mirage – Let’s KissJohnny Jewel is back. Love how unexpected his arrivals are, no advance warning, just incredible music. Here’s the latest from his Mirage project, an extended 9-minute vocoder workout. Off the After Dark 2 compilation, which arrives Friday. Best news.
MP3: Ell V Gore – Lobotomy
This single is exactly as exciting as we anticipated. Ell V Gore has been playing Toronto for quite some time, with his mic sucking brand of thrashy goth punk. A super exciting side-bar to this is that they will be releasing their debut EP on Bad Actors, a new imprint from Ben Cook (Fucked Up, Yacht Club) on June 4th.
MP3: ev ree whun – Soon Enough
Toronto’s ev ree whun have put out their debut EP today. Here’s the opening track from that release, full of vocal heavy pulsating weirdness. You can get the EP for free on their website.
MP3: Chanteclair – I Know Synthsation
CHANTECLAIR – I Know Synthsation
Chanteclair is from Montreal and make spacey electropop reminiscent of our recent favorites Chevalier Avant Garde. Some neat stuff! There’s a whole album, entitled Dance Madness, on their bandcamp.
MP3: Cassida Pax – He Is What He’s Always Been

Our favourite Windsor bedroom weird pop guy Cassida Pax seems to be channeling Chevalier on this latest single, a great follow-up to the lovely “Alma’s Permanence.”
MP3: Syngja – Reached The End
Spooky Icelandic people living in Montreal! Super interesting string based arrangements. Bjork and Arthur Russell hanging out, getting weird. The whole EP is brilliant. Syngja!
MP3: Ritual Howls – Turkish Leather

Don’t know much about Detroit’s Ritual Howls except that they’re a three-piece that makes post-punk of the darkest variety. This 4-track cassette demo is wonderful, all the fidelity we need.
MP3: Potpourri of Pearls – This Whole Town
Potpourri of Pearls – This Whole Town (Is Getting High)New electro epic from our fave Philadelphia crew, who keep delivering pure gold. Potpourri of Pearls!
Friday Classic Dark: Johnny Zhivago
Johnny Zhivago – Echo
Johnny Zhivago were a pretty badass synthpop group from Winnipeg (!), known for fighting for the future from the present. They remained sadly pretty obscure and this public access broadcast is the only performance to be found on Youtube. I’d love to imagine an alternative universe in which they became prairie superstars along with Ohama and Bruce Haack and the vast plains spawned hundreds of synth bands. Regardless, more electro prairie heritage moments please! Discovered thanks to Weird Canada.

MP3: Denmother – You Will Never

Denmother – You Will Never
We’ve always been impressed by Denmother and everything she’s done so far. With the release of her latest song, we’ve gone from loving her, to willing to follow her to the ends of the earth and back. This is some next level shit, and we can’t wait for the release of her tape on I had an Accident Records later this year.
