For this weeks FCD Lorenz Peter has dug into his bottomless collection to share with us a classic Canadian disco single, Geraldine Cordeau’s Space and Time. Lorenz is a comic artist so he has submitted his column in his chosen medium. He is also the owner and operator of one of Toronto’s best record stores, LP’s LPs at 104 Ossington Ave. He’s got a wonderful selection of Canadian disco and electronica, including many of the artists covered in this column, and a really deep collection of new and vintage vinyl. New Release: Young Galaxy – Ultramarine

Montreal’s Young Galaxy flex their pop muscles on Ultramarine, their fourth album and second since shape-shifting into an electronic outfit with the help of production from Studio’s Dan Lissvik. This album sees Catherine McCandless taking over full-time lead vocalist duty, and she shines while delivering earnest romanticisms and soaring choruses over bright synths and summery percussion. The release date is timed perfectly with the season, allowing the record to serve as the opening credits for the warm weather memories ahead. While opener “Pretty Boy” has the strongest emotional impact, it’s the earworm hook of “Priviliged Poor” and the hopeful lyrics of “New Summer” that keep drawing me back in.

The Fader and Vice are onto him too. It’s the latest from his forthcoming debut self-titled album, coming out on Mint on June 25.

We’re ecstatic to be presenting him at our NXNE showcase in Toronto, coming all the way from Vancouver, along with some other big names, on June 15.
