L CON – Form of Space

L CON‘s magnificent 2016 record Moon Milk hasn’t lost one iota of its avant-charm since last fall, and we’re seriously enjoying this 2017 run of videos for its finest singles. Last month we shared the stop-motion muppetry of “How Much Shall We Bet?” and now we’ve got quite the visual accompaniment for “Form of Space”. It’s cool to discover that the song is based on a story from Italo Calvino’s Cosmicomics, and Victoria Long has directed a loose interpretation of it, bookended by an astronaut’s discovery of a mysterious videotape. Featuring brilliant costumes and visual effects, and lots of excellent, unusual chroeography in a massive warehouse, it’s a terribly impressive video, and a more-than-worthy accompiment to one of favourite songs in recent years. Keep ’em coming, L CON!

Moon Milk is available now on vinyl and digitally from Bandcamp via Wildlife Sanctuary Sound Recordings.

AWWFUL – BB

Self-identified “queer alien DJ” AWWFUL have already established themselves as a pop music authority in the Montreal music scene through a number of highly lauded DJ nights, including the monthly Glitter Bomb at Bar Le Ritz. Their debut single “BB” only drives that point home, serving up a healthy dose of bubbly synthpop sheen that feels both future-forward yet reminiscent of our favourite early-2000s pop bangers. The track’s mid-tempo stomp leaves plenty of headroom for its armada of sparkly arpeggios to cut through, keeping things irresistibly danceable from start to finish. We’ll definitely be wearing out the replay button on this one.

“BB” is available for free download on Bandcamp, and you can catch AWWFUL’s debut performance on June 22 at Party d’ouverture du CV Plateau X Spilt Milk with another Silent Shout fave, Radiant Baby.

Chiquita Magic – Adventuras

Whimsical, light and fun: that’s “Adventuras” by Chiquita Magic aka Isis Giraldo in a nutshell. From the squelching synth bass and Reading Rainbow-style staccato synth embellishments the Montreal-based Columbian-Canadian creates a sense of wonder and delight in the single. Honestly, we weren’t familiar with this project until now, but consider us instant fans and definitely looking forward to anything new from the project.
