Above Top Secret‘s WTF ?!–one of our top songs of 2015–gets a masterful remix C/O Phèdre/Hooded Fang‘s Lee Paradise. Lee doubles down on the slurry haze of the original song, but adds a certain underground dance floor aspect that’s hard not to shimmy to.

We’ve been anticipating an ATS record for some time, and with the release of this remix we finally have something: their self-titled LP will be released July 1st on DAPS Records! The record will include the two amazing singles we’ve heard so far, this remix and a number of other tracks that we can’t wait to hear.

Montreal experimental electronic pop duo Blue Hawaii have been quiet of late, and haven’t released a new song since 2014’s utterly beautiful “Get Happy/Get Happier” single. Of course, there was the killer Agor Edits mixtape last year, meant to tide us over to what seems like it could be an exciting 2016 from them. They’ve hinted at new material coming lately, and seeing as how 2013’s Untogether is one of our favourite albums this decade, we’re eagerly awaiting their next sure-to-be masterpiece.

Agor (that’s Alex Cowan, half of the band) is also known for his meticulously detail-oriented productions, and today he put out a remix of Brooklyn duo Glassio’s “If I Was Your Boy”. It’s a dark and moody experimental house track that transforms the original by submerging the vocals, so that they become mere whispers, full of delay and mystery. Exquisite, as always.

Here’s a remarkably lovely ambient remix of Sarah Neufeld‘s “The Ridge”, the title track from the Broken Social Scene violinist’s solo album, done by none other than Kid Koala. Stripping the original of its explosive character and thunderous drums, Koala’s version features Neufeld’s reverbed-out voice over piano chords and twinkling synths. It’s a meditative and fascinatingly subtle re-imagining.

The Ridge is available now for pre-order from Paper Bag Records.

Remix: Phèdre x The Acorn – Artefacts

Talk about a wonderful combination! This started as a quiet and beautiful song from The Acorn, but the ever-excellent Phèdre have distorted the vocals (pitch shifting them down and fading them out into the wispy distance) and completely changed the spine of the song: goodbye acoustic guitar, hello synth fuzz.

And in case you haven’t heard the good news yet: we’re so thrilled to have Phèdre headline the second day of our first-ever festival in Toronto this December! See you there?

Premiere: Brandon Gibson-DeGroote x Mune – Fool My Senses

Toronto electro-shoegaze group Mune have a dark, mysterious sound to begin with, but this remix done by Brandon Gibson-DeGroote (aka one half of the most wonderful Most People) deconstructs “Fool My Senses” and takes it deeper into a darker, even more subterranean place. Pitch-shifted vocals reveal the slightly sinister character that may have always lain beneath the surface of Mune, but the overall effect of the remix isn’t evil exactly. More like bizarre space-age R&B.

Falling Through Remixed comes out August 28 on Culvert Music and features remixes from the likes of Beta Frontiers, Eytan Tobin, and Delta Will.
