Blue Hawaii – In Two
Blue Hawaii – In Two (pt II)
Blue Hawaii are back! We’ve been long awaiting their follow-up to Blooming Summer, our #4 album of 2010. And we’ve finally got word: their second record Untogether will be out in January 2013. Their sound has lost a lot of its haziness and is now crisper, more direct, and has headed in a decidedly Grimes circa 2012 direction. And it’s great.
Remix: Young Galaxy by Adam & The Amethysts, Blue Hawaii
Young Galaxy – We Have Everything (Adam & The Amethysts Remix)Young Galaxy – We Have Everything (Blue Hawaii Buh Buh Remix)
It’s been less than a month since the last one, but Young Galaxy are bringing us another remix EP, and boy do they know how to choose their remixers. My favourite of the bunch is from Montreal indie pop group Adam & The Amethysts, who do not normally operate in this territory, and serve up a sweet auto-tuned atmospheric remix. Clearly their talents are many – don’t hesitate to do this kind of thing again! Blue Hawaii also delivers a pitch-shifting bouncy psychedelic take that is quite tasty. But be sure to check out the whole thing, because the other remixers are Grimes, Cotton Mouth, and the Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Paper Bag is giving it all away for free here.
Blue Hawaii re-releases Blooming Summer
Blue Hawaii‘s album Blooming Summer is being re-released, on CD for those who were too cassette-averse to purchase it last year. We love Blooming Summer – it was #4 on our year-end albums list so we highly recommend picking it up from the Arbutus shop. To sweeten the deal, there’s two bonus tracks: “Floral,” in which the duo is joined by two of the members of Braids and a remix of “Dream Electrixra” by David Carriere of Silly Kissers. Arbutustastic! “Floral” is streaming above – and it’s an excellent song.
