New Release: Ghibli – Clubs

Ghibli‘s new record is out today! The Edmonton artist has put together a compelling combination of sounds, a successful experiment combining Paradise Garage-era disco with Gustav Mahler. The results are a very inventive and immersive record: give Clubs a listen, streaming on Soundcloud.
MP3: Ghibli – Vespers

Edmonton producer GHIBLI is hard at work learning Chinese and putting together his new full length titled CLUBS. Keep an ear out for his upcoming tunes, his style has developed from interesting oddity to pure bliss in a very short time.
Top 20 Albums of 2012

There has been so much amazing music made this year. Most of these albums have been on constant repeat at the Silent Shout office since we heard them. If you’ve been following the blog all year our love for these records won’t surprise you. If you haven’t, we can’t wait for you to hear them! There shouldn’t be so much damn agreement in the critical world. We don’t need multiple lists of the same 50 albums in a slightly different order.

MP3: Ghibli – Plate 32
Our favourite envelope-pushing sample-house artist Ghibli has made an exciting announcement on his Tumblr. There’s going to be a new album in January 2013 called Clubs and it’s going to be the final chapter in his trilogy of albums composed of Youtube-sourced samples. This one is going to be three suites, two of which are going to be reworks of choral pieces and movements of Mahler symphonies. Please let one of these be an unexpected club hit. Here’s “Plate 32,” a track that didn’t end up of Clubs but is nonetheless amazing.

This is so brilliant and beautiful, easily one of the best videos we’ve seen this year. From the POBA’d Rare Pleasures by Ghibli.
Pile of Best Albums: Ghibli – Rare Pleasures
Ghibli – The Crows Fly Back After The Storm
We loved Ghibli‘s last record – Pythia was one of our favourite albums of 2011. Whereas that record was a wonder of sample-based introspective atmospheric instrumental pop experiments, Rare Pleasure is in-your-face left-field house that still is from a sufficiently alternate universe that it probably doesn’t belong on a dancefloor in this one. But with the right people and right environment, Ghibli’s Youtube-audio-sourced masterwork should be the soundtrack for stoned house parties all summer. Hitting hard off the bat with the astonishing “The Crows Fly Back After The Storm,” there are plenty of more subdued moments like the chilled-out “Winflowers” that provide a break from the party jams. XLR8R has just taken notice of this talent – we can only hope that others will follow suit.
Rare Pleasures can be streamed and downloaded for free on his Bandcamp.
MP3: Ghibli – The Crows Fly Back After the Storm
Ghibli – The Crows Fly Back After The StormThe first track of off Ghibli’s upcoming album Rare Pleasures, out April 20 (nudge nudge) is an amazing bit of experimental lo-fi house sourced directly from Youtube audio. What an amazing hook. Put this on and dance all night.
Then visit his bandcamp to see everything else he’s done.
