She-Devils – The World Laughs

Immediately upon arrival, Montreal’s Audrey Ann Boucher and Kyle Jukka aka She-Devils thoroughly dazzled with their intoxicating psychedelic throwback pop on their debut EP last year. Naturally, we’ve been itching for more and luckily we haven’t much longer to go – their debut full-length is out in a month on May 19! In the meantime, we’ve got lead single “The World Laughs” to keep us company, and it will do fine for now (one can simply listen to it ten times in a row). The video, one of the year’s finest, is a playful, colourful concoction directed and produced by the duo themselves. Talented ones truly!

“The World Laughs” is available now from Bandcamp.

She-Devils – S/T

She-Devils made waves last year with a pair of nearly perfect singles, and here they are with their debut EP. The Montreal duo is our new favourite band, and we think they might just be yours too.

The self-titled release is only four songs strong, but when they’re this good, it’s hard to complain. They kick off with the two singles you already know and love: the psychedelic, swirling “Come” and the slow-burning crackle of “Where There’s No One.”

Then the real fun begins with “I Wanna Touch You,” a new song that twists some ’60s-sounding samples on a loop below simply constructed lyrics about touch and desire. Things gets weird in a remix of “Come,” a deconstructed version of the song with deep pitch-shifted vocals, soft laser sounds and the warping of a haunted carousel.

You can download the EP for free on their Bandcamp. Want to see them in action? They’re playing in Toronto on Valentine’s Day for Silent Shout’s co-presentation night of the Wavelength Music Festival.

She-Devils – Where There’s No One

She-Devils commanded everyone’s attention when they first arrived on the scene a couple of months ago with their first single “Come”. Their blend of traditional psychedelic pop and trippy sample-manipulations is addictive, no question. Hot on the heels of “Come” (our #19 song of 2015), the Montreal duo has put out a follow-up, hypnotic slow-burner “Where There’s No One.” Pretty mesmerizing, with a soaring chorus that will stick in your head for sure. Now they’re two for two! One of the best new bands in Canada, no question. Their self-titled debut EP is out next week, and needless to say we are stoked.

She-Devils are on tour now with Majical Cloudz. Check their Facebook for the dates.
