Debut: Membrain – Sit Back Relax AKA: Kinda Side-Project of Grimes?
A while back, Weird Canada did a feature on Canada-based record label Electric Voice. We liked a bunch of stuff the label had put out thus far, but when we checked out their site, they mentioned something about this band Membrain a “side project of Montreal’s Grimes” (not a direct quote).
Honestly, we couldn’t find any songs on the website, thought it was a joke and moved on.
Hey guys, it turns out it’s NOT A JOKE. In the past week, Membrain has been featured on Pitchfork, Chart and a bunch of other websites. Not only that, but it’s pretty good minimal electro with Grimes providing the occasional vocal loop/melody. Are they releasing something soon? It seems like they are. Stream a bunch of tracks from their album Sit Back, Relax on their Soundcloud page.
Friday Classic Dark – Ohama – My Time
It’s weird to think that music like this was being made in Canada in 1983. It’s even weirder that it was made in rural Alberta by one man: Tona Walt Ohama. Take a listen, and then check out a very interesting interview done with Ohama at Polyphasic Records. If anyone knows where we can get our hands on the box-set he released in 2006, please let us know!
Listen to two more amazing tracks over at Weird Canada, who turned us on to his stuff in the first place.
