Young Galaxy can do no wrong these days. The A-side to “Youth Is Wasted On The Young” is an incredible piece of work, one of the best songs we’ve heard this year. Looks like their forthcoming album might be even better than we had hoped. Although apparently these two songs won’t even be on it.

Young Galaxy – Youth Is Wasted On The Young
New tune from Young Galaxy! I feel like this a second coming of The Organ, taken in a noisier electronic direction. Very excited about the new album they’re working on in Sweden right now. The 7″ is available with A-side “Shoreless Kid” in super-limited edition from Paper Bag.

Guide to CMW Dark-Eletronic Pop – Thursday Edition
There is so much dark electro pop happening at the Canadian Music (Week) Fest. Check back here every day as we post the shows that you simply need to attend.
The absolute must-see set today is Austra at 1 am at Wrongbar. Silent Shout has not been shy about our love of all things Katie Stelmanis since she officially started going by Austra. This is one of the most recommended shows of the festival, so arriving early is strongly encouraged.
Oh, but conflicts of conflicts! Silly Kissers, another favourite of ours, have a set at the same time! 1 am at The Silver Dollar. Honestly, you have to make the decision for yourselves which you go to. Both are surefire bets, though.
There are two types of people who go to CMW. First, there are those who relish the bar hopping madness of trying to eke out the perfect schedule. Then, there are those who prefer to camp out at one venue, knowing they will have a good time. For the campers, we recommend you head to Rancho Relaxo for a night of chock-o-block (and international!) electro music. Arrive early for Toronto’s The Lovely Killbots and Secrettes at 9 and 10 pm and then stick around for many, many other wonderfully electro bands including Bloodgroup, award winners from Reykjavik!
It’s easy to confuse Young Empires and Young Galaxy, so we’ll just recommend both in case you go to one thinking it’s the other. Young Empires had one of our favourite songs of last year and are one of the tightest working bands in the city. You can see them at 10 pm at the Great Hall. Afterward, book it to Lee’s Palace where Montreal’s Young Galaxy will be taking the stage at 11:30 pm.

Remix: CFCF, Teen Daze, Freedom or Death remix Young Galaxy
Young Galaxy – Cover Your Tracks (Teen Daze Remix)
Young Galaxy – Cover Your Tracks (CFCF Remix)
Young Galaxy – Cover Your Tracks (Freedom Or Death Remix)
Young Galaxy’s “Cover Your Tracks” has just received some fine remixes, courtesy of residents of our three biggest cities. Montreal producer CFCF strips the track bare and makes it into an atmospheric brooder, Toronto duo Freedom or Death layer some new vocals on top, and Vancouver’s Teen Daze does a nice super-compressed chillwave take. Hear the original here.

Okay, we really should have had these up a few months ago. Our bad. If you haven’t already heard, Montreal’s Young Galaxy have pulled a genre change, away from indie rock and towards dark disco, for their new album Shapeshifting (out Feb. 8). These singles indicate that they have made the correct decision. The change in genre was helped by having Dan Lissvik of Studio produce. Interestingly he produced the whole thing without ever meeting them, it was all done over Skype. Can’t wait to hear this album. Also, apparently one of their songs will soon be remixed by Grimes. Yes please!
